Frequently Asked Questions
Q. What are your rates?
A. Please take a minute to let me know a little about your project. As I'm sure you understand, rates vary based on whether your project is for broadcast or not, (on hold messages is not broadcast) for radio or television, for Internet use and how long the material will be used. Market size can be a factor, too. Prices can range from forty dollars for a small market 30 second radio spot to up to five hundred for a 60 second movie trailer. Again, pricing depends on the project.
I do my best to work within your budget. Hiring a professional voiceover talent is less expensive than you probably think. Shoot me an email or call me. Of course, there’s no obligation, and I promise I won’t take it personally if you don’t choose me. (But I’ll be thrilled if you do!)
Q. How fast can you do this for me?
A. I do all of my voice over projects in my own home studio with professional broadcasting equipment. I can provide a quick turnaround on most projects because I don't have one of them pesky "day jobs". Voice acting...is what I do for a living! Just how fast depends on how many other spots or projects I have on my schedule and how many you need done. Voice over emergency? I'll do my very best to help you out. I can usually provide a turnaround of 24 hours or less.
Q. Why should I hire a VO pro (when I can get my receptionist / wife / daughter to do it for free)?
A. It takes a trained, professional voice actor to sound like a real person. Many “real people” sound like they’re just reading. A good voice over pro has the skills to lift the words off the page, sound natural, emphasize the parts that need attention, and actually “act” instead of just reading. A good voice over pro can truly reach your listeners with your message. Don’t forget: A bad commercial is worse than no commercial at all! People make fun of bad commercials all the time—make sure yours isn’t one of them.
Q. Can you send me a custom demo?
A. Certainly! Just email your script to me and I'll record a little bit of it for you. If you like what you hear, we can go from there! I can also read the entire script for you and watermark it at the beginning and end. (Watermarking is where you hear the production companies name and a small music bed in the beginning and end of the spot. It can be removed once the client is happy with the spot). If I'm not right for you, let me know and I'd be happy to recommend another voice to you! I know many people in the business, male and female.
Q. I think I need a female voice. Can you help?
A. No problem! I work with an assortment of high-quality female voice over talents who are available to voice your spot solo, or to do a 2-person scene with me. Let me know what you’re thinking and I’ll reply with some recommendations.
Q. Can you fix my script?
A. Only if you ask! Otherwise I’ll assume it’s just the way you want it. You might want to read it aloud a couple of times, with feeling, before sending it to me. Can you read it aloud in 30 seconds or less without sounding like a chipmunk on 3 shots of cappuccino? Then I probably can’t either… I can help you pare it down while strengthening your message for a small additional fee.
Q. Can you add music and sound effects?
A. Yes. I have a home studio with a vast library of royalty free sounds and music beds.
Q. What about revisions?
A. If you're unhappy with what you hear, or would like a different approach, I'm happy to re-record your script for you at no additional charge.
Your satisfaction is always 100% guaranteed! Please help me help you by being as specific as possible about what you want, including phonetic pronunciations of any tricky names.
Q. Are you available to work on retainer?
A. Absolutely! This is a great way to add a fresh voice to your mix without burdening your payroll. Retainer agreements can be arranged for imaging, dry read commercials, promos and more for a monthly fee. Small-market stations can also save money by buying spots and promos in bulk. Let’s talk!
Q. How do I pay you?
A. After your audio has been delivered and you’re happy with it, you’ll receive an invoice via email. You can then pay by check (US dollars, US bank account) or use the convenient PayPal button found on the left side on my web site.
